The Borehole Drilling Procedure in Zimbabwe |
The company policy statement is developed with a major objective of ensuring there is balanced social-economic development in Zimbabwe in line with Zimbabwe's Vision 2030 and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Borehole Drilling Procedure in Zimbabwe:
1. Geological Survey: A Geological survey accesses the geographical landscape and composition of your ground and ascertains the location and depth at which the water drilling should take place.2. Drilling Equipment Mobilization: Mobilization of the Drilling Equipment Once payment has been settled, our drilling equipment is mobilized from our operations site to the drilling site.
3. Drilling and Installation: Upon reaching the site, our rig locates the area identified by the hydrogeologist as suitable for drilling. The machine uses a bit and a hammer to penetrate the ground and rods which further push the head of the drill towards the ground.
The penetration continues until the drill reaches the required depth. The drill usually passes through a water-bearing formation as it is drilling. The casing of the borehole is usually done after the required depth is reached.
The borehole is usually cased with steel casings to prevent the walls of the borehole from collapsing and impurities from entering the borehole water. A gravel pack is inserted on the lining of the casing to enable additional filtration of the borehole. A submersible motor is usually filled to pump the water from the borehole.
4. Testing: This stage is crucial as it conducts a chemical analysis of the water to determine is suitability for use. This is usually a 24-hour process.
5. Securing the Borehole: Top Slabs are inserted and a cap is usually put on the borehole.
6. Water Collection: As per the client requests, we can also put up steel/plastic tanks and a water tower along with the required piping.

Five Facts About Borehole Drilling That You Need To Take Note Of:
1. Know Your Borehole Casings:The Preferred Borehole Casing In Zimbabwe Is Class 9 and 10 (Pressure Classes.)This is because Class 9 and Class 10 Casings are more collapse resistant. The strength of a Casing is often described as collapse resistance.
2. Borehole Drilling Depth: The exact depth, of where the water is located, cannot be established by the drilling contractor nor the Water Surveyor (Borehole Siter).
3. The Is No 100% Guarantee On Water: It is important to note that it is never a 100% guarantee that any hole will yield water, the amount and water quality can also not be guaranteed by the drilling contractor and water surveyor.
4. Borehole Siting or Water Surveying Is Important: Making use of a hydrologist or traditional water diviner will increase your chances of having a successful borehole that will yield a sufficient amount of water.
5. Know The Risks: The risk of the borehole drilling lies with the property owner. The client will still be liable for the drilling costs irrespective of a borehole yielding water or not.
